From Crohn's to 'Christians in Touch'

MEDICAL FACT: Crohn's Disease is incureable!
REALITY: I no longer have it

The background to the story starts when I was made redundant and then faced months of pain and agony whilst going from roughly 12 stone to just over 9 stone in weight in a matter of weeks. I was hospitalized twice during a 3 month period and kept vomitting any food that I would eat.

I would vomit so much that I would be in tears because of the pain, and because none of the tests carried out would show that there was anything wrong with me, it was a very frustrating time.

It was a great effort just to get dressed and sit in a chair all day, as I felt as though I was walking through a dark valley. Even so, whilst I felt that I was sinking in the physical and spiritual waters surrounding me, I always felt as though the Lord would not let my head go under. He was always keeping me afloat and preventing me from drowning in despair.

I had pains all over especially my joints and bones and would awake with feverish sweating consistently. During most of my illness, I kept getting a verse of scripture all of the time when asking for the Lord to speak to me and it was PSALM 6 VERSE 2 - "Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am faint; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in agony."

Whilst I was seeking some comfort from the Lord, all I kept getting was this scripture and the scripture from His word could not have been more accurate for me at that time.

A short time after, I got the scripture PSALM 6 VERSE 9 - "The Lord has heard my supplication; The Lord will recieve my prayer", Although I still didn't expect what was to shortly happen.

I went through months of tests whilst the medical profession were trying to diagnose what was wrong with me, and finally around March 2002, a Colonoscopy revealed Crohn's.

This was a relief in some respects because I had started the strong steroid treatment which did take the abdominal pains away and gave me an appetite for the first time in 6 months.

Well, having asked the Lord to heal me if it was His will - He did. I did not go to any special healing service, for my belief is that the Great Physician (the Lord Jesus) is with me always and can heal me anywhere. You don't have to go to a building or to be touched by a person -- The same God who died on a cross and rose from the dead is omnipresent and can heal anyone, anywhere and at anytime.

Our trust should not be in individuals or specific ministries, but solely in the Lord Jesus Christ.

May the Lord receive all the Glory for healing me......

From Crohn's to 'Christians in Touch'

'Christians in Touch' is a new website that allows Christians to find and rekindle lost friendships. The site has been designed to enable Christians to find old friends from previously attended Churches.

Described as a sort of Christian version of the more popular 'FriendsReunited', it is having a credible impact within the Christian community considering it was launched only 3 months ago.

Already the site boasts over 1,000 members from Churches spread across the entire British Isles and beyond, and has averaged over 3,000 visitors per month, thus far.

The site was born out of a period of illness and unemployment for its creator Andrew Bents from Windlesham in Surrey. Andrew had faced months of pain and illness after being made redundant in September 2001, before being finally diagnosed with Crohn's disease back in April 2002.

After being told by several specialists that this disease was incurable but could be controlled by strong medication, Andrew's faith was tested but not dented in the slightest as he accepted the situation. He had prayed if it was the Lord's will that he might be healed, simply trusting in the great physician the Lord Jesus Christ who could transform any circumstance for His glory.

Even so, Andrew admits even he was shocked when he went to the specialist for a check-up after finishing a course of steroid treatment, simply expecting to receive further medication, only to be completely bowled over when the specialist told him that the Crohn's disease had gone.

"I knew God could heal me" Andrew said, "but I just wasn't expecting it at that time." "In the end I guess it brings greater glory to God by being healed after the diagnosis"

It was during the period after Andrew's healing that the idea of 'Christians in Touch' was born one day in the shower in October 2002.

Andrew's long term goal for the website is already in mind when he states, "My vision is not only that it will allow Christians to find their old friends, but eventually I would like to see the website used as a resource for Churches who want to share resources for their evangelistic efforts. To reach the lost, must be the Christian's priority."
